Setting goals can be overwhelming. But actually working on them can be even more overwhelming if the steps to reach them aren’t properly planned.

So here’s my SMART goal,

“I will update my CV so I can get inducted into one of the big four firms within 2 months , by doing 1 short course per week, from online platforms like Corporate Finance institute, Coursera and Linked in and one virtual internship every two weeks, so that I have at least 6 additional items to add in my CV by the end of April.”

And these are the three steps that I immediately need to take:

1- Taking two online courses every week and completing one virtual internship every two weeks

2- Shortlisting at least top 20 firms of Pakistan, and calling their offices to inquire about the expected date of commencement of induction process.

3- Prepare for interviews and tests of these firms.

I have been procrastinating for 2 weeks, but this week Amal gave me the motivation to finally take an initiative and so I did some research. First of all, I came across a M.S Excel crash course by the Corporate Finance Institute. It was approximately a 4 hour long course. I enrolled myself into it and completed all the lectures and tests within a day, the next day I got my certificate.

Here’s a screenshot of it:

One of my friends told me about another 1 month long course, which is an initiative by an alumni of my dream firm. The course will teach me introduction to audit procedures, and excel shortcuts that are practically used in the firm. I took the demo class of the course on Thursday and got myself enrolled in it. I will get the certificate at the end of the course, so I couldn’t upload that of course. But here is a screenshot of the advertisement page with some details of the relevant course:

In addition to both these courses, I applied for a virtual audit internship offered by Grant Thornton Australia. Here is the confirmation email:

If you ask for my take away from this whole experience, I would definitely say that all these tasks seemed so daunting just a week ago. But when I finally dived into it, the motivation to complete and the sense of achievement automatically followed.

Things can seem intimidating from a distance, but I learned that the best way is to #Juststart.
